Pets are awesome.

But some people don’t feel the same way.

Perhaps your significant other doesn’t like animals or maybe your landlord doesn’t allow pets inside your apartment. Although you may find yourself in situations where your love for animals becomes a challenge, here are the health benefits of having a pet to help you build a persuading case. It won’t be long until you and Fido are reunited!

  1. Pets make people really happy
A happy person is a healthy person. Having your furry friend greet you after a long day of work is the easiest way to put yourself in a good mood. Whomever you’re living with, you should assure them that having your pet around will help increase the amount of happiness that happens under your roof!
  2. A daily motivation for exercise
Life is busy. It’s no secret that exercise is a great way to stay healthy but not everyone is motivated enough to make the time — until now. Having a four-legged friend will encourage long walks, a round of fetch, and an occasional game of tug-of-war. From runs on the beach with your pup to chasing hamster balls down the hallway, many pets will get you up and moving!
  3. Therapy and service animals
Some people have therapy dogs to help them deal with their anxiety and stress. Others have service animals to help people with disabilities such as blindness. Pets are smart, helpful, and loyal. They don’t get enough credit for the fact that they make life better for a lot of people in this world.
  4. Allergies
If your roommate has an animal allergy, it’s understandable that they wouldn’t want a pet around. It’s probably best to go pet-free in this case, but you can always point them in the direction of an allergist to see if there’s anything they can do.

“An allergist is specifically trained in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies including food and animal dander allergies. When avoidance measures are not practical or not sufficient, an allergist can assist in a program of medications and allergy injections.”
